The Southwest Florida Bluegrass Assoc.

Newsletter - August 27, 2022

The August event had outside temperatures in the 90's with high humidity making the air conditioning in the hall appreciated. Friday evening after setting up the sound equipment, a jam session was started and except for a short dinner break it lasted well into the evening. The sound of bluegrass could be heard Saturday morning with the Beginner Friendly Jam starting at 10:00. The start of the Heartland-Southwest Bluegrass Music Associationís Saturday of bluegrass music, camping and jamming event was underway. Good bluegrass bands were ready to play with the Heartland-Southwest Jam Band at 1:00 and Highway 41 South at 2:00 with a double set. The Heartland-Southwest Jam Band set is always interesting, no rehearsal is done so unexpected things do occur. The Jam Band put on a good show, the audience was appreciative and they received a warm welcome and applause. The Highway 41 South band opened strong and continued the show with high energy bluegrass music. The vocals where of exceptional quality with excellent harmony. The instrumentation of the band was very solid. The showmanship was good with banter from Mark and Dave. One of the best bands to play Heartland-Southwest this year. A show we will look forward to seeing again.

The Heartland-Southwest Association contributed $1,000.00 to Sandy's Music Girls, a non profit dedicated to the music education of girls between the ages of 6-19 years. Sandy's Music Girls was founded by Sandy Greer and is now affiliated with the Lake Wales Arts Council. The music education is in the form of a week long camp. It features instruction in guitar, ukulele, violin, cello, dulcimer, banjo, songwriting and singing. The camp is free to the participants.
